Emergency medicine is the medical specialty concerned with the care of illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention for patients of all ages. It is a matrix of all specialties and super-specialties. Patients in Emergency Department are unscheduled and undifferentiated. Emergency medicine physicians carry out the immediate assessment and treatment of patients with serious and life-threatening illnesses and injuries. The nature of work in the Emergency Department requires Emergency Medicine Physicians to maintain an extremely broad range of clinical skills and knowledge.

The “Society for Emergency Medicine, India” (SEMI) was established in 1999. It is a full member of the “International Federation of Emergency Medicine” (IFEM). SEMI is the oldest and strongest body, which has identified the importance of Emergency Medicine as a specialty in the country. SEMI is continuously working on Training, Education, Recognition, Research and Service regards to the emergency medicine specialty.

The Department of Emergency Medicine, “Shifa Hospital” is 10 bedded well organised, state of the art facility manned by qualified Emergency Physicians, Nurses and Emergency Medical Technicians 24X7, supported by all the specialties and super-specialties.

Eligibility : To be eligible to take up this course the candidate must have completed MBBS from an institution recognized by Medical Council of India (MCI).
