Shifa Hospitals as Shifa Polyclinic was founded by ALHAJI. Marhoom M.K.Mohamed Hussain Sahib on 12th October 1971. There was no 24 hrs Emergency care or Hospital at that time in Tirunelveli. Even though he had no Doctors in his Family, He planned to start a Polyclinic to avoid patient travelling to other cities for treatment. Before this time all emergency patients had to be taken to either Madurai or Chennai for treatment. The situation changed after Shifa Polyclinic was started. Most of the Eminent Consultants of the City today were once associated or started their carrier in Shifa Clinic & rendered dedicated Service.
In 1985-86 Ventilator was introduced in to the hospital. Trauma cases were treated successfully. ICCU &IMCU setup was created with minimum beds. Provisions of Health Care improved with efficient Doctors & Nurses.
There was a long planning & Expansion of the Shifa polyclinic & the Building was expanded in 2002 Blood Bank was Started on 2003.A Modern clinical Laboratory was Started with all modern equipment.
There was a plan to start a Interventional Cardiac Center in Tirunelveli - Shifa was the first center to start in the year 2006
Many interventional Procedures like CAG, PPI, Angioplasty, ASD,VSD all were performed. The Cashless service was started after tie up with Insurance Companies. Nearly 20 Corporate major tie ups with CGHS, ECHS,ESI, VOC Port,KKNPP, NTPL, Heavy Water Plant, Southern Railway, TNCMCHIS, Madura coats and other Private Insurance sectors were introduced on 2005.

It is a social service non profit organization which was founded on 2001. The main objectives are to organize First aid training programme to auto drivers and certificate of appreciation given to best driver those who are not involved in accident and also regularly doing first aid training programme to students. Above 1000 blood donation camp performed till that period by nesaparvai and 350 members are actively involved in this NGO.

2.Green Revolution project
It seeks to prevent and reverse environmental degradation and enable sustainable living. The programme aims to creat awareness on green cover in the south Tamilnadu. Around 20000 trees planted in the tirunelveli district. Regularly doing mass awareness campaigns for public to establish a culture of care for the environment.
3.Child Empowerment
It is strongly committed to child rights advocacy and rural youth development, and directly translates its mandate into concrete actions that improve the wellbeing of disadvantaged children and youth in rural areas. Regularly giving Educational scholarships, free provision of books, educational aids, clothes and dietary supplements and computer literacy aid to rural children and basically disabled children.

Presentations, Workshops, Awareness campaigns and retreats, are regularly held in educational institutions to introduce early character and social skills development. Social and financially support to women and children orphanage. Over 150 free marriages arranged for economically weaker category.
1. Tackle and Reduce Health Inequalities
Financial asistance to poorly needy patients those who are required to undergoing kidney transplant and heart surgery in the southern tamilnadu.
2. Free cataract surgery
It is our Endeavour to bring the quality eye care in rural and backward area of southern district of tamilnadu with least cost & free of cost within the reach of the poor people. In Tirunelveli district there are 400 village panchayats, 31 town panchayats, 6 municipalities, 1 corporation limits could avail this service without affecing the quality in it’s.
To provide the world class service ,most sophisticated and new technology in advanced opthalmic treatment were encorporated in Tirunelveli district for the past few years with the full fledged separate unit of 10 free bedded services to the poor &needy patients.
